MATERNAL CARNATIC CHANTING

This traditional meditative chanting from the south of India, was first introduced in Europe in the 1960s by the French obstetrician Frédérick Leboyer. In his trip to India, he saw how women gathered together in circles to sing this melody at the sound of the tambura.

He well understood the powerful effect that this ritual chant had upon them: through the sound and vibration an energy bubble is created, and this bubble surrounds you, making you stay focus, fully present and connected to yourself. Thus you can keep a deep and rhythmic breathing that induces relaxation.

What is more, by singing you release endorphins, which work as a natural analgesic in our body, and that your baby receives and enjoys. Throat and larynx also open and relax, and this boosts dilation, as they are directly connected to the birth canal.

All these features cause Carnatic chanting to be a grand training during pregnancy and a great tool for labor.

Let’s sing together.
